Six large beams with overhangs and various levels of post-tensioning a
nd stirrup reinforcement were tested. The results were compared to pre
dictions given by the modified compression field theory, truss model d
esign approach, and the current ACI Building Code. The comparison show
ed that both the modified compression field theory and the truss model
approach yielded results that were consistent with the specimen behav
iors. The current ACI Building Code overestimated the flexural capacit
y of the beams and underestimated their shear capacity with respect to
the applied loading conditions.
