A series of new heteronuclear complexes of a ferrocene-containing Schi
ffs base (LH) with Ni-II, Pd-II, (VO)-O-IV, and Fe-III as the central
atoms has been obtained. PdL(2), VOL(2), FeL(2)Cl, and [FeL(2)]O-2 com
plexes manifest liquid-crystalline properties and NiL(2) is nonmesomor
phic. The structures of the complexes synthesized have been establishe
d by magnetic measurements and IR and ESR spectroscopy. All of them ex
cept PdL(2) are paramagnetic. The antiferromagnetic exchange interacti
ons have been observed in the Fe-III complexes. The correlation of liq
uid-crystalline properties with the geometry of the chelate centers is
discussed.
