We studied the efficacy of all-trans-retinoic acid-containing ovules i
n combination with an alpha-interferon-based gel and Decapeptyl degree
s IM in the treatment of cervical papillomavirus infections and intrae
pithelial dysplasia. Stability tests showed that the retinoic acid in
the ovules was stable for at least 4 months at 4 degrees C. In a pilot
study, we obtained complete remissions with the three-drug combinatio
n, whereas all-trans-retinoic acid and alpha-interferon used alone pro
duced only partial remissions; Decapeptyl degrees also induced the dis
appearance of similar lesions, but was associated with recurrences due
to persistence of the virus.
