An attempt is made in this paper to review most of the recently develo
ped elasto-plastic, isotropically hardening models for soils. These yi
eld criteria have ben converted into convenient forms for use in elast
o-plastic finite element analyses. An attempt is also made to generali
se the determination of the plastic flow vector for each of these crit
eria. Using various yield criteria, the applicability of the software
developed for the purpose is illustrated for a simple problem.
