The role of the school psychologist in the identification, assessment,
and treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) in children and
adolescents within the educational setting is examined. The major phen
omena that characterize OCD in this age group, including many of the m
ore commonly reported obsessions and compulsions, are described. Examp
les of behavioral manifestations of these obsessions and compulsions i
n the school setting are provided. The role of the school psychologist
is discussed, with particular emphasis placed on a behavioral consult
ative approach to the assessment and treatment of children who exhibit
this disorder.
