Abstract
The electronic contributions to the asymmetry of spectral lines are in vestigated by considering frequency-dependent electronic widths and sh ifts. The asymmetry due to the frequency-dependent electronic width le ads to increased blue line wings. The asymmetry of the line profile re sulting from the shifts depends on the energy difference between the c onsidered energy level and perturbing ones. For hydrogen lines the red wings are shifted to the red side whereas the blue wings are shifted to the blue side.
