The sorption behaviour of Ba2+ and Sr2+ cations on granite have been s
tudied under flowing and static conditions in column and batch experim
ents. Ba-133, Sr-90 and H-3 were used as radio tracers. The retardatio
n factors, R(f) and distribution ratios, R(d), of barium and strontium
in column experiments were found to be smaller than those from batch
experiments. In both techniques barium was sorbed more strongly on gra
nite than strontium. Sorption energies were found to be in good agreem
ent with literature values.
