This paper offers two interpretations of the idea of situated-action b
y showing how each one explores different research programs. The first
one emphasizes both action understanding and social communication; re
searche on interactive machines and CSCW are concerned by this approac
h. The second one emphasizes both perception and spatial organization;
everyday cognition, routines and situated automatons are now concerne
d. The authors point out the limits of both interpretations and underl
ine the informative role of artefacts in stabilizing environment.
