Y. Takii et al., OBSTRUCTIVE-JAUNDICE CAUSED BY A CHOLESTEROL POLYP OF THE GALLBLADDER- REPORT OF A CASE, SURGERY TODAY-THE JAPANESE JOURNAL OF SURGERY, 24(12), 1994, pp. 1104-1106
We present herein the case of a 34-year-old man in whom obstructive ja
undice was found to be caused by an impacted detached cholesterol poly
p. A cholecystectomy with exploration of the common bile duct was perf
ormed after ultrasonography showed cholesterol polyps and stones in th
e gallbladder. Intraoperative cholangioscopy demonstrated an impacted
cholesterol polyp at the distal end of the common bile duct which appe
ared to be detached from the gallbladder. To our knowledge, this is th
e first report of an impacted detached cholesterol polyp causing obstr
uctive jaundice.
