Xy. Hu et al., COMPARISON OF EXPLICIT AND IMPLICIT FINITE-ELEMENT METHODS IN THE QUASI-STATIC SIMULATION OF UNIAXIAL TENSION, Communications in numerical methods in engineering, 10(12), 1994, pp. 993-1003
On the basis of simple one-dimensional finite element analyses, compar
ison in simulations of uniaxial tension using explicit dynamic and imp
licit static tonnulations has been made. Results show that for materia
ls having a Hollomon-type constitutive law with power-law strain rate
sensitivity, the explicit dynamic method can be employed for the quasi
static simulations of tensile tests only below the critical test veloc
ities or critical normalized material densities. These critical values
are determined numerically as a function of material parameters.
