Abstract
Esterification of 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'- and 4,4'-dicarboxylic acids wi th 4-alkoxyphenols leads to new mesomorphic bipyridine esters. The syn thesis and properties of the compounds are discussed and compared with some carbocyclic analogues.
