Abstract
Applications of the fiberoptic bronchoscope (fiberscope) in the intens ive care unit setting include evaluation of the airway, trachea and br onchial intubation, aid to changing endotracheal tubes, and placement for difficult nasogastric tubing. Intubation of the awake versus the u nconscious or anesthetized patient is discussed along with the devices available. Finally, success of alleviating major airway complications begins with proper training.
