Abstract
We investigate the effect of shear and uniaxial extensional flows on t he rate of the cyclization reaction in polymers. We find that for such an intramolecular diffusion-controlled reaction the flow always reduc es the reaction rate, in contrast to the previously studied case of in termolecular reactions, where linear flows enhance the reaction rate.
