Aminocarboranes nido-7-NH3+-(7-CB10H12)(-) and closo-1-NH3+-(CB11H11)(
-) were copolymerized with alpha,omega-dihalogenoalkanes to high-molec
ular-weight alternating copolymers. The nido-compound copolymer was cr
osslinked by means of sandwiching two open cages with Co-III ion yield
ing bis(monocarbollide)-cobaltate(III) units as the new type knot poin
ts. Metallacarboranes, 1,1'-diaminobis(monocarbollide)nickelate(IV) an
d two bridged bis(dicarbollide)cobaltates(III) (8,8'-mu-imino- and 8,8
'-mu-oxyimino-), have provided hemipolymers of molecular weight up to
a few thousands in the same type of copolymerization. A new methacryli
c-type monomer was prepared by reaction of glycidyl methacrylate with
8,8'-(mu-imino)-(1,2-C2B9H10)-3-Co-III and copolymerized with methyl m
ethacrylate to high-molecular-weight statistical copolymers.
