In the peaceful revolution which Poland underwent after 1989, one can
discern different strategies for change, and different methods of conf
ronting the problems of the past. This paper offers an analysis of con
trasting answers given by three main currents of opinion - moderates,
radicals and the old-new. The radical solution has been rejected by th
e population. The moderates have managed to make their priorities acce
ptable. However, the return to power of the old-new (ex-communists) is
jeopardizing the transformation model which has been followed up till
now, and shows the limitations in moderate and radical analysis.
