Anisotropy of the development of instabilities in textured yttrium sam
ples with the remanent magnetization M almost-equal-to 600 emu/g in ma
gnetic field up to 12 T has been studied. Large jumps of the magnetic
moment of the samples (500 emu/g) have been observed which are due to
the development of magnetothermal instability. Unusually high magnetos
triction (approximately 10(-4)) resulting from magnetic flux pinning a
nd stabilization of the magnetic properties of textured samples throug
h remagnetization have been revealed.
