Abstract
Small actin monomer binding proteins are essential components of the a ctin polymerization machinery. Originally thought of as passive buffer s that prevent polymerization of actin monomers, recent discoveries el ucidate how some actin monomer binding proteins can promote as well as inhibit polymerization, and how they cooperate to regulate actin asse mbly.
