Abstract
The addition of a bandpass filter following the VCO in a conventional PLL (phaselocked loop) has already been proposed as a means of reducin g jitter. The Letter provides an analysis to verify and quantify this approach and concludes that jitter may be reduced by a factor pi/2Q, w here Q is related to the selectivity of the bandpass filter employed.
