Abstract
The authors propose a novel WDM transmission technique combined with p olarisation-division multiplexing (PDM) which doubles the frequency ut ilisation efficiency. This technique is used to transmit a 10Gbit/s fo ur-channel WDM signal with 0.5nm channel spacing over 340 km and the s ignal is demultiplexed using an optical filter having 0.5nm FWHM and a polarisation beamsplitter.
