The efficiency (k(obs)/k(coll)) of the gas phase hydride ion transfer
from 2,2-dimethylbutane to tert-butyl cation displays a pronounced pos
itive pressure dependence, which suggests significant anchimeric assis
tance of the methyl groups of 2,2-dimethylbutane adjacent to the depar
ting CH2 hydride in the transition state.
