Abstract
Photolysis of thallium(III) trifluoroacetate and pentamethylbenzyl ace tate or pentamethylbenzyl alcohol in neat trifluoroacetic acid at -11 degrees C produces a well-resolved 13 x 8-line EPR spectrum of what pr obably originates from pentamethylbenzyl trifluoroacetate radical cati on; the same spectrum could be generated by similar treatment of hexam ethyl(Dewar benzene).
