Kgh. Vanderwal et al., SURGICAL-TREATMENT OF PROPTOSIS-BULBI BY 3-WALL ORBITAL DECOMPRESSION, Journal of oral and maxillofacial surgery, 53(2), 1995, pp. 140-142
Purpose: Three-wall orbital decompression was tested using a coronal a
pproach as a technique. Patients and Methods: Three-wall orbital decom
pression by a coronal approach was performed in three patients with pr
optosis due to Grave's ophthalmopathy, in six patients with Grave's op
hthalmopathy because their vision was threatened due to optic nerve co
mpression, and in one patient with exorbitism due to Crouzon's syndrom
e for cosmetic rehabilitation. Results: Proptosis reduction averaged 4
.7 mm. The technique provides good access to the orbital walls, facili
tating adequate proptosis reduction, and leaves no visible scar. Diplo
pia, present preoperatively in four patients, was improved in three pa
tients and unchanged in one. There was no loss of visual acuity.
