Abstract
Many hospitals are fragmented along departmental boundaries, leading t o islands of information about patients. This makes data integration d ifficult, and therefore can increase hospital costs and reduce patient care. This paper presents an architecture to provide uniform and tran sparent access to computerized data and functions available in this ki nd of heterogeneous computer environment.
