A highly conjugated polymer was synthesized by the polymerization of m
ultiacetylenic compound, tetrapropargylammonium bromide (TPAB), with v
arious transition metal catalysts in high yields. PdCl2, PtCl2, RuCl3,
MoCl5-EtAlCl(2), and WCl6-EtAlCl(2) were found to be effective for th
e polymerization of TPAB. Various possible polymer structures were sug
gested for poly(TPAB) via different cyclopolymerization pathways of te
trapropargyl functional groups. The resulting polymers were insoluble
in organic solvents, and black or brown powder.
