Abstract
The effects of living cells of Bacillus mesentericus TO-A (BM-P), and the freeze-dried powder of the cultivation filtrate containing metabol ites produced by this bacterium (BM-S), on bacterial flora in the rat caecum were investigated. In the BM-P and BM-S groups, there was a sig nificant increase in Bifidobacterium and a decrease in Clostridium. In addition, in the BM-P group there was a tendency for an increase in B acillus and Lactobacillus.
