One hundred and eighty-three isolates of yeasts and yeast-like species
belonging to 11 genera and 26 species were obtained from sediment and
soil samples during two collections in summer and autumn, respectivel
y. In sediment samples each of the species Candida krusei, Cryptococcu
s laurentii, Hansenula anomala, and Trichosporon pullulans represented
more than 10% of the total yeast population in summer. In autumn, Aur
eobasidium pullulans, Cr. laurentii, Cr. albidus, and Sporobolomyces r
oseus occurred the most frequently. Soil samples were often occupied b
y Aureobasidium pullulans, Cr. laurentii, Hansenula anomala, Rhodotoru
la graminis, and Trichosporon pullulans in summer. In autumn, each of
the species A. pullulans, Cr. albidus, Cr. laurentii, and Tr. pullulan
s represented more than 12% of the total yeast population. In both sea
sons the proportion of individual groups of soil samples was very simi
lar to that of autumnal sediment samples.
