A. Deb et al., AUTOMATED BAND IDENTIFICATION PROCEDURE FOR DYNAMIC STRAIN LOCALIZATION, Computer methods in applied mechanics and engineering, 137(3-4), 1996, pp. 307-330
The enriched displacement procedure described in [1] is used in order
to capture the detailed structure of the strain field within shear ban
ds during strain-localization. A method to select elements to be enric
hed which combines three well-known localization characteristics is pr
oposed. A parameter analysis is performed to define appropriate values
for the enrichment delimiters. Once the elements to be enriched have
been selected, an automated procedure is used to identify the location
s and orientations of the shear bands in the mesh. The procedure uses
elementary cluster detection and line-fitting techniques and can ident
ify up to two simultaneously forming shear bands. A method to place th
e enriched patch inside elements through which the shear bands pass is
developed. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the approach
.
