Lbb. Jeng et al., HEPATOCELLULAR-CARCINOMA IN A PREGNANT WOMAN DETECTED BY ROUTINE SCREENING OF MATERNAL ALPHA-FETOPROTEIN, American journal of obstetrics and gynecology, 172(1), 1995, pp. 219-220
A 26-year-old pregnant woman was diagnosed as having hepatocellular ca
rcinoma at 16 weeks of gestation when extremely high levels of cw-feto
protein were found on a routine screening examination. The pregnancy w
as terminated, and a right hepatectomy was performed. Although such ca
ses are rare, this one suggests that early measurement of maternal ser
um ci-fetoprotein in a pregnant woman with hepatitis B surface antigen
emia may allow the timely detection of a hepatocellular carcinoma.
