We present a family of exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equatio
ns, obtained from a Bianchi-type VI0 vacuum seed metric using Alekseev
's inverse scattering method, which generalizes the 'breather-like' va
cuum solution recently obtained by Belinsky. We show that, for a range
of values of two of the parameters characterizing this family, the sp
acetimes represent two electrogravitational plane waves emanating from
an initial singularity, near which the 'breather-like' behaviour is d
isplayed, and which afterwards propagate along the cosmological Bianch
i VI0 background. We also present plots of several physically relevant
quantities, where this behaviour of the spacetimes is graphically dep
icted.
