Constriction of the umbilical cord by an amniotic band is a rare entit
y, associated with a high rate of fetal mortality and congenital anoma
lies. A case occurred with early detection and successful intervention
for fetal compromise caused by the amniotic band, which was associate
d with first-trimester amniocentesis. This is the first known report o
f ultrasound Doppler flow studies in a case of umbilical cord constric
tion by an amniotic band, showing reverse diastolic flow in the umbili
cal arteries.
