This paper presents an overview of the difficulties in implementing pa
rticle size control in particulate processes. Such difficulties are mo
stly related to the complex interactions of process variables on parti
cle size. Some ideas are given on the use of existing measuring device
s and controlling actuating mechanisms in particulate processes. Durin
g recent years rapid developments of both devices and techniques have
emerged that allow the control of one or two size variables with very
good economic results.
