Sampling carried out for the extensive study of a flora in the Upper M
iocene (Upper Tortonian) marine sediments of the Makrilia Formation in
the Ierapetra region of Crete (Greece), yielded also a few fossil fis
h remains. They may be referred to the following taxa: Bregmaceros alb
yi (Sauvage 1880), Lepidopus sp, Clupeids and probably a myctophid of
uncertain identity. The nature of their preservation allows to surmise
that a fast burial and after that a transport to deeper regions of th
e shelf slope may have occurred.
