The magnesium(II), calcium(II) and zinc(II) nitrate complexes of 2,6-d
iacetylpyridi-nedihydrazone (L) have been prepared and formulated as [
MgL(NO3)(H2O)](NO3), [Mg(2)L(3)(H2O)(2)](NO3)(4).H2O, [CaL(NO3)(2)(H2O
)].H2O, [Ca(2)L(3)(NO3)(2)(H2O)(2)](NO3)(2).H2O, [ZnL(H2O)(2)](NO3)(2)
, [Zn(2)L(3)(H2O)](NO3)(4) and [ZnL(2)](NO3)(2).H2O on the basis of sp
ectral data, thermal and elemental analysis. The correlation of the na
ture of metal ion and preparative conditions with the stoichiometry an
d bonding mode of both ligand and nitrate ions is discussed.
