We present a real-time optical processor intended for analyzing missin
g dots in a diffusely reflective screen dot pattern printed on paper.
The coherent input image is generated with a liquid crystal incoherent
-to-coherent image transducer. A rigorous theoretical calculation of t
he intensity distribution in the optical Fourier plane is made for a s
creen dot pattern with and without missing dots. Experimental resoluti
on measurements of the system are shown, the optical Fourier transform
of the diffusely reflective screen dot pattern is demonstrated, and t
he relation between intensity in the Fourier plane and percentage of m
issing dots is experimentally verified.
