The biochemical effect of N-acylethanolamines on trout erythrocytes fr
om Salmo irideus was studied by following their susceptibility to hemo
lysis and measuring steady-state fluorescence anisotropy of the fluore
scent probe, 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) on isolated membranes
, The hemolytic process was strongly affected by different ethanolamin
e derivatives, However, only slight changes in fluorescence anisotropy
were detected in these models, therefore, it appears that acylethanol
amine derivatives do not produce significant variations in the physico
-chemical characteristics of the membrane, The localization of these m
olecules in particular microdomains is hypothesized, thus locally modi
fying physiological membrane activities.
