Abstract
A beta-glucan-binding protein (BGBP) has been identified in brown shri mp plasma by using a polyclonal antiserum against a BGBP from the fres hwater crayfish. The protein was purified by immunoaffinity chromatogr aphy, and its molecular and biological properties described. Brown shr imp BGBP is a monomeric protein with a molecular mass of 100 kDa, simi lar to those described for other crustacean BGBPs. This protein is cap able of enhancing the prophenoloxidase (proPO) system activation induc ed by laminarin. Both amino acid composition and N-terminal sequence a re markedly similar to those of crayfish BGBP. Copyright (C) 1996 Else vier Science Ltd.
