We have developed a high resolution numerical method based on spectral
approximations to study kinematic dynamo models of the galaxy in the
geometry of an oblate spheroid. The method has enabled us to investiga
te the onset of dynamo action in the limit of a thin disk. In this lim
it we have served the discrepancy between the asymptotic analysis of S
oward and the previous numerical works of Stir and White.
