A Raman microprobe focuses laser light onto a small (micron sized) are
a of a sample, and then collects and analyses the Raman scattered ligh
t. These systems normally consist of a grating spectrometer coupled to
an optical microscope. Generally double or triple grating spectromete
rs are used to achieve sufficient rejection of the Rayleigh scattered
light. This results in systems that have a low optical efficiency and
are not rugged enough for industrial use.
