AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF LOS MICROWAVE LINKS IN SOUTHERN INDIA

The microwave field strength measurements are recorded on round-the-cl ock basis using six line-of-sight (LOS) microwave links situated in So uthern India. For the six microwave links it is found that during the transition hours (0700-0900 and 1700-1900 hrs LT) maximum fading is ob served due to dissolution and formation of nighttime temperature inver sions. It is also found that diurnal cycle is not affected for the fiv e LOS microwave links which have different frequencies. Investigations of the effect of path inclination on fade depth observed from five LO S microwave links are also reported. It is observed that as the path i nclination increases, deep fades caused by layers are reduced.
