Error-Gee optical modulation of a regular stream of data pulses at 10G
Hz by optical data al 10Gbit/s is demonstrated using a semiconductor l
aser amplifier within a loop mirror. This is achieved without patterni
ng despite an amplifier recovery time of several bit periods by positi
oning the amplifier near to the centre of the loop. This approach remo
ves sensitivity to the optical polarisation of incoming data.
