Gr. Gluckman et al., NEWBORN PENILE GLANS AMPUTATION DURING CIRCUMCISION AND SUCCESSFUL REATTACHMENT, The Journal of urology, 153(3), 1995, pp. 778-779
Circumcision, the most common operation in male patients in the United
States, is performed by a variety of health care professionals. Altho
ugh not technically difficult, it results in a large number of reporte
d and unreported complications annually. We report the successful reat
tachment of a distal penile glans, which was amputated when the Sheldo
n clamp was used for newborn circumcision. The literature is reviewed,
and prevention and treatment of this type of circumcision injury are
described.
