Various mechanisms for the scattering of the second harmonic of an int
ense monochromatic wave in an isotropic centrosymmetric medium were an
alyzed. A general expression for the amplitude of second-harmonic scat
tering in a magnetic field was derived. The numerical calculations of
nonlinear susceptibilities determining the generation of the magnetic-
field-induced second harmonic were carried out for hydrogen and alkali
-metal atoms.
