Abstract
The diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MSI is a clinical one which shoul d be made by a neurologist. Examination of the cerebrospinal fluid (CS F) [Lowenthal (1991): Neurol Neurosurg 4:914-918], the results of evok ed potential studies, and magnetic resonance imaging serve as confirma tory tests. CSF is a window which permits a glimpse into the metabolis m of the nervous system. The detailed investigation of the CSF protein s has provided important clues about our understanding of the pathogen esis of MS. (C) 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
