F. Ju et al., DYNAMIC-RESPONSE OF DELAMINATED COMPOSITE BEAMS WITH INTERMITTENT CONTACT IN DELAMINATED SEGMENTS, Composites engineering, 4(12), 1994, pp. 1211-1224
A finite element approach for the analysis of the dynamic response of
delaminated composite beams including the effect of intermittent conta
ct in the delaminated segments is presented in this study. Based on th
e principle of virtual work, the present approach is equivalent to the
Lagrange multiplier method. The kinematic constraint conditions due t
o contact, which are established by using the node-to-node contact mod
el, are exactly satisfied. Using the Newmark method, a simple iterativ
e algorithm for solving the dynamic contact problem is presented, and
the shortcoming of the original Lagrange multiplier method for numeric
al computation is avoided by partitioning the system matrices. Numeric
al results for the dynamic response of delaminated composite beams sub
jected to both harmonic and impulsive loads are presented, and the eff
ect of intermittent contact on the dynamic response of delaminated com
posite beams is examined. The frequency response behaviours and impuls
ive response behaviours of delaminated composite beams are also presen
ted.
