Ad. Carson et al., CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR AND MEASURES OF APTITUDES, Journal of career assessment, 5(1), 1997, pp. 81-104
This article reports correlations between the Myers-Briggs Type Indica
tor (MBTI; Myers & McCaulley, 1985) scales and scales from two aptitud
e measures: (a) the Differential Aptitude Tests-Adaptive (DAT-A; McBri
de, 1986; Moe, 1988), using a sample of 122 university and community c
areer assessment clients, and (b) the Ball Aptitude Battery (BAB; Ball
Foundation, 1993), using a sample of 99 high school students. The res
ults are similar to those reported by Stricker and Boss (1962). Factor
s such as sex, age group (adolescent and adult), and the degree to whi
ch an aptitude test reflected general cognitive ability appeared to mo
derate the degree to which the results were in accord with Jungian the
ory. Implications for career assessment and Jungian personality theory
are discussed.
