A simulation study has been conducted to assess the performance of DMC
(Dynamic Matrix Control) applied to an industrial steam gas reformer,
coupled with a steam boiler unit, and used for hydrogen production. T
he objective has been to improve the control of the reformer product t
emperature, quality and water level in the steam boiler. The simulatio
n results show an excellent servo and regulatory performance of DMC in
contrast to the multiloop PID-type controllers. DMC appears to hold a
considerable promise this the process unit.
