Sensitization of Crystal Violet (CV), in benzene solutions, by triplet
states of benzophenone, biphenyl and benzene itself has been observed
. The resulting transient spectrum and its decay kinetics have been st
udied in the 360-450 nm region. The observed spectrum has been attribu
ted to triplet state of CV. The rate constant for energy transfer from
triplet benzene to CV has been estimated to be 5 x 10(10)dm(3) mol(-1
) s(-1). Triplet state of CV is found to decay by reacting with the pa
rent dye molecule with a rate constant 4 x 10(6) dm(3) mol(-1) s(-1).
