Electrons are produced by photoionization of a probe molecule phenothi
azine (PTH) in aqueous micellar solutions of Triton X-100 by excitatio
n with 355 nm, 35 ps laser pulses. Transient absorption signals follow
ing the laser pulses show the presence of singlet, triplet and cation
radical of PTH and solvated electrons in both aqueous phase and micell
ar palisade layer. Computer simulations are carried out to separate th
e overlapping spectra, estimate the solvation time of the electrons in
both the phases, and the time required for the electron solvated in t
he palisade layer to diffuse out to the bulk aqueous phase. Copyright
