Abstract
Ultrafast time-resolved studies of the vibrational motions of CO on Cu (111) are described. In particular, the energy transfer rates between substrate electrons and phonons and the frustrated translation of CO a re measured. An explicit relaxation model including the temperature de pendence of these rates is developed and used in the analysis.
