Abstract
The growth and dynamics of ultrathin lead films on Cu(111) has been in vestigated using high resolution helium atom scattering. The zone boun dary energy of the Rayleigh mode of the Pb monolayer increases from 6. 2 to 6.7 meV after heating the layer to 700 K. A new mode for the mono layer structure has been found along the [110] azimuth. A second monol ayer can only be grown by codeposition of 20% T1 with the Pb. The meas ured data is compared with the results of slab calculations.
